Default TCON 14 versus TCON 14B

Hi all...I really have trouble understanding the difference between the different lenses...

So, what is the difference between the TCON 14 and the 14B? (I have found a place that sells the TCON 14 for about $80. )

And will both work with the Olympus C2100 Zoom?

Thanks in advance....

The Tcon14 is for use with the smaller cams like the C3XXX series. The 14B is much larger and is designed for the EXX series. They are essentially the same design and construction, but just a different size.

Hi Dianne,
The differences are threefold: first, lens quality and second size and third quality of image.

The TCON-14 is a very small lens which connects by way of a "clip-on" rather than "screw-on" connect. It was originally made for the older digicams preceeding the two megapixel models. It will work with your C2100UZ and all things considered doesn't do too bad a job.

The TCON-14B was designed for the E10 and works very well with other Olympus digicams as well. It's HUGE with a 63mm ocular thread and about an 86mm objective. It's also very heavy and you need to support it by holding the lens barrel if you use it. It gives considerably sharper images than the TCON-14, but has the identical 1.45x tele boost.

With either of these two lenses you will have increased true chromatic aberration at full zoom, especiall on the blue fringe (not blooming) side. Either QimagePro or Picture Window Pro 3.1 have filters which will greatly improve the image and remove most of the chromatic aberration. Of the two products, Picture Window Pro 3.1 is more powerful and versatile for this purpose.
