I currently have a Nikon D50 with a 18-55 kit lense, along with a 55-200VR Nikkor lens.

I am just getting a bit fed up changing lens and am on the lookout for a decent all round lens that wont need constantly changing.

I hear the Nikkor 18-200VR is a good one, although I'n not sure about the price and whether I can justify the further expense (I am only a keen amateur...) Also, with this lens, I have read about VRII as opposed to VR. Are there two different types of this same lens?

Does anyone have any comments on this lens, how good it is, (or bad or indifferent).

Look forward to any replies received...

Don't buy it . At least until you try it . I was not happy with mine. Although the IQ is not what I would call bad it was not real good. Nikon needs to do some work on it yet. I realize there are not many options but I would not recommend buying one.

As superzoom lenses go, the Nikon 18-200 is a good one, but it isn't as good, optically, as the lenses you have. and it costs more.

Superzoom lenses are convenient, but that's all they are.
