Default Canon Lenses for the Galapagos Islands?

I have a Canon t3i with an 18-55 1:3.5-5.6 and a 55-250 1:4-5.6 lens. A friend suggested that I get a fast 3 supreme quality 300mm and a dedicated 1.5 doubler. I don't know enough about cameras to know if this is good advice or not. Can anybody help me? Thanks!

Do you prefer that to a fixed length 300mm lens? What do you think about getting the fixed length lens plus a 1.4x or 2.0x multiplier?
