I recently purchased a Nikkor 28-200 f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF Autofocus lense and the focus seems tobe extremely slow compared to my old 35-80 mm lense. For lack of better descriptive terms the 35-80 sounded more like zip-zip when it was focusing while the new lense sounds like zzzzzzzzzzz-zzzzzzzzzzzz. Does anyone have any insight on this? I know this is a higher end lense than the 35-80 since that was the one that came with the camera and lists for nearly $400 , though I got it for 300 (not grey market). Please help.

Not sure about helping, but I have a 28-200 Sigma lens, I use it with a N2020 Nikon film SLR, not much difference in focus speed comparing with a standard 50 mm lens. May be the mechanics in the lens is stuck? just a guess.

Dear Jbish,

I hope you get an answer, I was considering getting this lens for my D70. I heard it was a decent , compact, all around lens. Are your pictures sharp?
