Default Tiffen filters w/ C-4000, am I expecting too much?

I purchased Tiffen's 43mm filter set (UV and polarizer) and went test shooting yesterday. Maybe I was expecting too much, but the results were less than fantastic.

I shot a few pics of reflections off of glass, with and without the polarizer, and I can tell very little difference. I'm also having a hard time telling the proper position on the polarizer using the LCD. Any hints or advice would be appreciated.

Thank you.

To use the polarizer, you need to use the LCD, which you know. But the trick is to press the shutter release halfway and hold, as this locks the scene's brightness in the LCD. (It's easier using a tripod.)Now, when you rotate the polarizer, you will see the change it makes, if any. Remember, a polarizer is very dependent on many factors, and you don't always see a difference.

Default Filters

You will not always see significant differences with polarize filter. Skiola hits the nail on the head with use of the tripod and the viewfinder when using polarize pictures. The polarize filter is like a good pair of polarize sunglasses, you often forget you have your sun glasses on until you go indoors. The correct position for filter is different for each shot. You may want to take several and adjust the filter as you go. The filter will not eliminate the glare of a window or water. It will dampen the glare to give you a better picture. The polarized sunglasses will not take the glare off a window or water but only reduces the intenisty. The great thing about digital cameras is when the picture is not to your liking -- delete.
