Hi,
*Finally* I am getting my much lusted after Uzi. It should be here Monday and I am so excited I can barely stand it! Now, I would like to learn a bit about what filter does what. I know about the basics - polarizer, ND, UV, etc., but is there a good site that tells you what other filters are for, and possibly rates which is better for certain functions? (ie: Hoya, Vivitar, Nikon, Tiffen, etc.) I have been lurking for several weeks, but I have not seen this subject come up yet. Also, is there a site you could recommend that gives good online photography lessons? Thank you in advance for your advice and informaiton. Regards, ~Tiger |

A couple of good places for basic lessons:
http://www.shortcourses.com/index.htm http://www.quiknet.com/~frcn/Camera.html And if you already know about the filters you mentioned, you only need to know about two more: IR and Graduated ND. Check the Olympus forum to see if IR works with the Uzi. The other is an ND that is dark at the top and clear at the bottom (or vice-versa). Available as graduated or split half & half. Use it for landscape photography to darken sky and leave the rest unchanged. Almost any other filter (except UV, ND, Polarizer, IR, and Graduated ND) can be duplicated via software. Take one shot and apply different effects later. Hoya HMC is good quality at reasonable cost. |
