As I stepped out onto the tracks to get a good angle, in the hot Iowa sun, I felt the heat from the ties, and the smell of creosote. And that took me back about 40 years, to when I worked summers driving spikes for the Milwaukee Road.

Very nice shot, Barbarian. Certainly nostalgic for many of us who grew up in the Midwest all those many years ago. Would love to see the inside which, hopefully, has been preserved in its original state.

Some business owns it. And they weren't open when I was there. An annex is now a restaurant. I'm just pleased someone preserved it.

Great picture. Proportions. Smell of creosote. In this countre creosote was also used as a tooth "killer".

All I know is that it burns on sweaty skin. And it leaves odd stains that don't go away readily.

Nasty stuff.

They really used it on teeth?
