The Shaniko, Oregon City Hall.... the downstairs level housed the Fire Brigade. The tower is the fire bell. The building on the right is the City Jail.

Bill, I thought I knew Oregon City but I don't remember that. Exactly where is it and is there more? I'd like to go see it. Great picture.

mommy_culleton,

I have some more photos ofShaniko in this gallery:

http://www.pbase.com/billd9/shaniko

I will probably add a few more as I get time to process the photos I took last week. Thanks for looking.

Cal,

It's in Shaniko.... not Oregon City. It's on US 97 between Grass Valley and Madras. It's definitely worth a daytrip.... lots of photo-ops.

Bill, thanks to you, I found another place to visit, previously unknown to me. We went out there yesterday and got a lot of pictures. I didn't know what to expect and was a little surprised. I am not sure how much is original buildings, restored, and how much is just show. I would like to correct one thing you said about your first picture. The building on the right is actually the town hall. The jail is in the back of the first floor of the fire hall.

I won't post any of my pictures out of respect for yours, Bill.

Thanks for posting your pictures and telling me where this place is.

Cal,

I was only in Shaniko for an hour or so and did not take the time to properly record the identity's of the buildings. Thanks for letting me know the correct names of the buildings. I actually relied on this web site....

http://www.shaniko.com/

for the identitys of the buildings but their photo is not the same as what is there now.

Please post some of your photos. I would like to see them. The next time you get over that way, have a look at some of the other out-of-the-way towns like Clarno, Antelope, Fossil, Spray and Mitchell for a step back in time.

Bill
