Hi everyone. Recently i purchased a set of camelion 2700 mAh batteries. I charged it for abt 20 hrs using a constant voltage charger for the first time but then the battery lasted for a mere 8-10 shots with my Nikkon cam. And even after next two cycles the battery doesnt show much improvement in performance. On the other hand Duracell's 2650mAh and Coolpix 2000mAh (which i had earlier) worked perfectly right from the start.
Should i try the constant current charging (risking the battery life) or should i try a couple of more cycles ?

Hello Nikhilvalsalan,

NiMh chemistry is charged using constant current. The charge is terminated a number of different ways, and if it does not properly terminate, that is when battery damage occurs.

A good quality charger will charge each cell individually (not pairs of cells) and charge at a rate that allows for the generation of a strong end of charge signal. Some chargers allow for some battery testing so you can determine the health of your batteries. I recycle batteries after they fall below about 80% of their initial capacity, or when they can no longer hold a decent voltage under load.

If you are interested in a charger/tester, you may want to check out the Maha C9000 unit. I understand Maha is having a Christmas sale on them.

The fact that your camera is working OK with other batteries suggests that either your batteries are the problem, or your charging method is not working.
