Default Panasonic HDC-TM60 & HDC-SD60 Additional Power

I have recently purchased 8 of these great camcorders and they record perfectly off the battery until drained after about 2 hours. Using the supplied Panasonic AC adapter they will run continuously until the card is full.

What I would like to have is the ability to record 8 hours without any AC power.

The factory AC adapter is rated at 5 volts 1.6 amps.

I have several 12 volt 7 amp lead acid batteries that I used to power my old Aiptek camcorders perfectly using a 12 volt to 5 volt 2 amp dc to dc converter. The camcorders would run for close to 12 hours.

When I use the same parts I do get some charging it the Panasonics enough to extend the recording to about 3 hours. I even tried upgrading the dc to dc converter to one rated for 5 amps which resulted in no change thinking the Panasonics needed more current but no change has been seen.

I have also thought the power might be dirty but because it's all dc I doubt that's the issue.

I'm curious as to what others have done. I'm sure I'm not the only person that has tried this.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
