This charger can be used by anyone. I am an electrical engineer and I particularly delight in it. You can set charging rate, I seldom do. You can read voltage, mah charge or discharge, it has a renew cycle for discharging rechargingg cells to improve their capacity. I have several year old cells that are good as new.
Most modern computerized chargers work by constantly reading the cell voltage and when it drops it stops charging and goes into the trickle charge mode. Use any cells in most modern chargers. This one has a specific warning not to charge NiCads.
I have repeatedly checked cells for heating and have not found it excessive up to 500 ma rate.
the NiMh cell is prefered for several reasons, it lacks cadmium which should be disposed as hazardous waste.
