These were taken by affixing toothpicks to the lens collar, impaling the leaves on them, and backlighting the leaves with the sun.

The second one I call The Nest for obvious reasons... a kinda cool nature fractal idea.... I think.

Hi David,
Welcome to the Weekly Challenge forum. Hope you enjoy yourself here.

You have described a technique that had never occured to me. The results are astonishing! Do you tape the toothpicks to the lens barrel and how far do you let them stick out past the end? Are you using a macro lens, extension tube(s), or closeup filter?
In other words, please give us exact details on how you accomplished this bit of magic.

Cal

Thanks for the welcome. I've posted twice in here before, but still, thanks for the welcome. :-)

I am using an Olympus C-7070 which has a fabulous Super-Macro mode. I taped three toothpics to the collar around the lens and impaled the leaves on them. The toothpics held the leaves at 1" from the lens (the C-7070's minimum focus distance). I stopped it down to f11 (C-7070's minimum aperture) for sharpness and DOF (quite tiny with such a small focal length), aimed at the sun, and pulled the trigger.

Really like these shots the first one looks like a satellite image of a town or city.

One of my favourite seasons, I am still looking around to shoot my contribution to this challenge.
