Yes, definitely ethnic. The last time I had some wonderful stuffed cabbage was in Chicago in the mid-sixties. They were made by a Russian mother and you could taste the love in them.

The reflecting black surface makes for an unusual shot of the gravy -- the 3-dimensional appearance is cool.

Thanks Selvin. Yes, they are made with love by my mother, a sweet little Ukrainian woman of 84.....
I took the picture using flash and it is on a mirrored surface. The sauce looks almost like it routed wood....funny how that mirrored surface created that edge....
No editing was done on it....
