We have some really neat handpainted concrete barriers around base and since my day off was today, I went around and took some photos of a couple of them.

This is the Tuskegee Airmen barrier out in front of one of our wing buildings. A little background for those who aren't familiar with the history of the Tuskegee Airmen, they were the first African American pilots in the U.S. Officially formed in 1941 as the 99th Persuit Squadron, they attended training at Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama and went on to become the first all-black combat unit to serve during WWII. They were reportedly the only fighter group to never lose a bomber to enemy fighters. The 332 Fighter Group, at the time an all-black unit, was formed shortly after to accomodate the growing number of African American graduates. My deployed squadron is part of the 332nd, hence the reason the history of the Tuskegee Airmen is such a big part of this base.
