A dime once bought a candy bar

A movie show, a big cigar

Good coffee with a free refill

Try that at Starbucks if you will

A loaf of bread was just a dime

Bus ticket got you there on time

Today, as you would know the facts

A dime won't even pay the tax

Closer still (a crop) Note: A dime is 3/4 inch in diameter

Awesome shot Walter! I remember when I used to be able to walk to the newsstand downtown and get handfuls of candy for a dime :\

I'm from a town of about 5500 people. Our Main Street is still pretty old fashioned. We have a big brick post office, a small bank on the corner and alot of small shops lining both sides of the street. There's a little deli where you can get sandwhiches made, a pizza place, alot of small speciality shops that people have opened up to sell crafts and handmade goods. We've got a small book store..small compared to like..Barnes and Nobel.Probably one of the only towns left that still has a tobacco shop. It's really pretty when they decorate the streets for Christmas. We don't have a Wal-Mart. Our movie theater only consists of 3 theaters. We don't have a Blockbuster, we have a mom and pop video store that I worked at for 2 1/2 years before I joined the Air Force. Once you get outside of Main Street we have the usual fast food restaraunts and a couple more banks and gas stations and the like. We finally got a Dollar Tree a few years ago and last time I went home they'd put in a Best Western. It's in the middle of Menanite country so you can buy alot of fresh meat and produce too. I never really appreciated it until I got stationed in California and you actually have to drive to get anywhere.

Dani

Maybe that should be a future "Weekly Challenge" assignment. Capturing the essence of the endangered "downtown".

Walter, would you please post that challenge suggestion in the new suggestion thread at the top of the forum. Thanks.

These photos make me appreciate how good a dime looks when I hold it in my hand. I can't see all the scratches, flaws, and engraving errors. Outstanding macro shots.
