It probably wasn't noticed but I have been away for a couple days thanks to mother nature. As you may have seen on the news, we had a major wind and rain storm passed through the Portland area Thursday night. It is supposedly the worst storm to hit the area in the past ten years.

The power went off about 8:30 PM Thursday night and didn't come back on until about 3:30 AM this morning (31 hours). The only casualty in the refridgerator or freezers was three gallons of ice cream! We burned a whole lot of candles the last two nights, ate a couple meals out and cooked one meal on a propane camp stove. We used the gas fireplace for heat. Anyway things are back to normal, now. At the peak of the storm, about a million homes lost power in Oregon and Washington. About 1/3 million in the Portland area mostly due to downed trees and power lines.

OK, it was not a hurricane or tsunami but it was a major storm for this area.

Cal,

Earlier this year we had our power problems due to our earthquake. I can completely sympathize with your demise.

Aloha and glad to see you back on the circuit.

Aloha

Glad you made it thru okay. Power outages in such cold can be very bad for people who don't have any back up heat sources....Hope everyone else in the areas hit by the storm are okay, too....

Glad to hear you are okay. Being without power makes us realize how much we depend upon it.

Three gallons of ice cream. That sounds like our house!

I am also gald to hear all is well.
Yes Hurricans are bad, but really bad localized storms are no picnic either. They can even more damage, just isolated to a much smaller area, so not near as news worthy. Just depends if you are a "victum" or not as how news worthy it is :G
Glad to have you back.

Like all the other people I am happy to hear you are OK!

All over the world weather seems to change in a not pleasant way.

That is, sad but photographers could take dramatic pictures. Did you take some during the storm? Could "savage weather" become a weekly challenge?

Best wishes and a beautifull winter!

Glad things are back to normal for you Cal. I hope the rest of the area is up and running soon, too.

Thanks everyone. I did not get any pictures.

Vidiac, your suggestion is a good one. How about posting it in the new challenge suggestions thread at the top of the forum. We've seen a lot of storm photos recently here in the forum. However we don't want it to turn into a "show and tell". We want to make our challenges challenging photographically so as to teach new techniques.
