Mag.

Quite an impressive shot. The fine details of the statue really standout. I note that the chief has a sheaf of feathers in the right hand and what appears to be a pipe in the left hand. Any special significance? Is the medallion also of any significance?

Also am I reading too much into this but he seems to have a slight western set of features.

Aloha

Great shot. Selvin's questions have me curious, also. I don't know your location but you can fix that. If you go to the top of the page and click "My Account" and then click "Profile" you can put your location in your profile and it will be displayed under your avatar. Thanks.

Thank you Selvin and Calr, Its hard to findmuch information on Chief Petasoga. But legend has it that his father was a descendant of French nobility named Antoine Carre. Antoine met and married an Ottawa Indian princess. Carre became known to the Indians as Neaatooshing. Eventually he was adopted by the tribe and was made chief.Later he had a child which they named Petasoga, which one day marrieda great Ottawa chiefs daughter. That would explain his western looks. Our towns name is actually Petoskey (Michigan) derived from "Petosoga" which means "sunbeams of promise" he was born early in the morning.

Selvin, you are correct that is a peace pipe in his other hand, Im not sure what the significance of any of his items are, but he was a great fur trader.

Love the detailed image. Did you put the red scarf around his neck?
