These two photos may not seem to be linked, but:

Slaves were enaged in cutting a route through a hill in Nassau when slavery ended. The result was a deep cut in the hillside that ended blindly. The freed slave stonecutterscut a staircase into the living rock at the end of the manmade canyon and it became a place of cool comfort in the tropical heat of the island. It is called the Queen's Staircase.

If you climb the Queen's Staircase and hang a right towards the old fort, you will walk past a wall painted by the descendants of those slaves, with what I took to be a tribute to their African forbearers.

I found it an interesting juxtaposition, and lacking a means to incorporate both in a single composition, I thought you might like to know the story.
