This is possibly one of the most well known walls in the nation if not the world. At first extremely controversial but now generally accepted as a profound work of art that grabs the viewers emotion at the most basic level.

Maya Lin, the Vietnam Wall, taken on one of my trips to Washington DC.

Wow! Excellent composition on both. I can't pick one. At first glance I favored number two, but now I'm thinking the first is more profound. I particularly like the Washington Monument showing up in the first shot. It helps place the shot.

[edit] Now I'm sure I like the first shot better. After all the names are the whole point.

I think both shots are outstanding. There are so many elements coming together to make these shots work, it is hard to identify them all. In the second shot, it took me a long time to recognize that reflections were playing a dominant role.

Very profound, indeed.

Bill, Cal,

Thank you very much for your comments. If you have never stood before The Wall before it is very difficult to imagine how it has the emotional impact that it does. Photos capture only some of this impact.

Aloha
