Two excellent shots although both a bit overexposed. I posted the following tip in a response to another neon shot posted earlier today.

There is a trick to shooting good neon shots but it depends on your being able to get up close to the sign. If you can get close, spot meter on one of the lighted neon tubes but don't click the shutter. Use your auto exposure lock function or button and while holding that setting, backup to the place where you want to shoot the picture and click the shutter using the locked exposure setting. I learned this in a photography class I took a few years back. I have tried it a couple times and it works well.

This would not work in the first shot but it would in the second. With a scene like the first shot, you might try bracketing the exposure over three shots. Start with -1.0 for the first shot, -0.5 for the second, and the metered value for the third. If your camera doesn't have auto bracketing, you could accomplish the above by entering these values for exposure compensation.

Good captures, Matthew. I like the second shot better for you can actually see the neon tubes.

I'm somewhat amused by the second shot and the juxtaposition of authentic Mexican food and the Causian sounding name Cadillac.

Oh well, the test is in the eating not necessarily in the appearances.

Liked the second shot better better of the clarity.

Aloha
