The following lighthouse on the island of Kauai used to be functional and is now a heritage site and bird sanctuary. The Fresnel lens in this lighthouse was one of the larget ever made for a US lighthouse.

Great work, Selvin. Either you used a long lens or you found a vantage point that is much closer than the public viewpoint above the light house. Your shot is more clear and has much better color than any of the shots I took and I thought my shots were great! :-?

Yesterday, Bill, thanks for your kind comments. Yesterday, we're just a mere 5-hours flight from the West Coast.

Cal,

This is the result of about half a dozen trips. On one tripI lost the entire collection somewhere in electronic cyberspace.

Yes, there is a slightly elevated vantage point just by the entrance to the park. If you are lucky enough to time it right with the wet season and a cooperating sun the colors are very good. Otherwise the very bright sun and dry conditions tend to wash out the colors and create a lot of blown highlights. This a perfect example of where the use of filters is a tremendous advantage.

Shot taken with about a 7X zoom.
