Hello Everyone,

My first post in this forum. This looks like it could be a lot of fun.

Here is a red rose in my front yard. Any comments or hints would be welcome.

Welcome to the Biweekly Shootout, Hagar. Indeed, we do have a lot of fun here. If you don't like the current challenge, the next challenge will be completely different. We have a new challenge every two weeks.

Technically, this photo is excellent. Aesthetically, the rule of thirds would probably help here. If you are not familiar with that, in your mind draw to vertical lines and two horizontal lines to divide the scene into a 3x3 grid. The optimum place for your primary subject is the intersection of two of those lines. In the case of this photo, the rose is centered. That allows you to see detail in the flower but nothing around it If you backed up a bit to show some of the leaves and bush, I think it would be much better.

Lastly, when shooting flowers, if possible, try to find flowers that are in pristine condition. This rose is past its prime. Obviously, your location may limit your choices. However, it is something to think about. If you like shooting flowers, try finding a location where you have many to choose from, such as a botanical garden or community flower garden or show.
