Took the kids to see the lighthouse in Michigan City, Indiana on Saturday .. okay, it was really so I could photograph it, but they liked it too!

Lapstrake,

Wonderful job. Clarity and composition are good.

I'm a fan of lighthouses and have been trying to take photos of all the Hawaii lighthouses. Only one is left. (Some context is necessary, there aren't that many around).

If interested, you can see them at: http://www.pbase.com/selvin/hawaii_lighthouses

Aloha and thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the link selvin, your lighthouse photos are great. I wish the lighthouses around Chicago were as picturesque! I was made to live in a warm climate so I'm jealous of folks who live in Hawaii anyway ;-)

I'm hoping to get a few more lighthouses on my memory card soon - only have a couple now at http://www.flickr.com/photos/lapstra...7600111975925/

Lapstrake,

Looked at your Chicago area lighthouse shots. Beautiful.

I lived five years in the Chicago area (late sixties to early seventies) and didn't even noticethe lighthouses until another forum member posted a shot some months back. I guess I could use the excuse I was studying diligently.

The Evanston lightouse shots are especially memorable since I went to college in Evanston.

I'm basically a warm weather freak myself, five years in Chicago cured me of any affinity for cold weather and snow.

Aloha and thanks for your kind comments in my lighthouse gallery.

The framing and composition of this shot are superb. I don't think you could have done a better job!

Is that a catwalk leading out to the lighthouse or a cable tray?

Cal

The catwalk leads to the lighthouse. From what I heard, it was for the keeper to use when Lake Michigan got angry and smashed its huge waves into the breakwater. I wasn't allowed up there ;-(

I've seen waves that would spray a person a lot higher than that, but at least the keeper wouldn't get washed into the frigid lake!

Thanks.

Very nice...wonderful colors. And I even like the way the sky and water blend into each other..makes the light house stand out.
