I am wondering if it is some kind of laser show. Since it appears to be at a sports stadium, it could be some kind of pyrotechnics.

This is an interesting photo but it is overexposed. You can try darkening it in your favorite photo editor but you will lose detail. Underexposed digital images can be lightened very successfully in the editor but not true with over exposed.

Aussie G.,

I'm going to take a wild guess, It's a a bunch of very thirsty flies sopping up the the moisture in the air on one of those hot humid Aussie nights.

I was actually going to guess the remnants of a fireworks display. Lots of twisted lines.

The pylons are the centre pylons on a major bridge.... The "Bolte Bridge". They are lit up with massive spotlights at the base which blaze way up into thhe night sky.... the bugs love the lights and those white lines are seagulls flipping and flapping around trying to catch a late night dinner.

In this shot you can see the shadow of the pylon projected up into the night sky....

I can't believe that I was in the ballpark on my guess about the thirsty flies. It didn't occur to me that the picture would show the seagulls catching the darn insects. Oh well next time.

Pretty interesting.
