This is a picture of the remains of Cong Abbey built around 1200. It is located in the village of Cong, co Mayo, Ireland. The movie "The Quiet Man" was filmed (at least partially) in Cong.

I love how the building is falling down but those tombstones are standing tall.

Very nice. Is that natural deterioration or WWII bombing damage? I think the grave markers are standing tall because they are carved from one solid piece of stone.

It is mostly natural deterioration with perhaps a little help from invaders over the centuries. From what I've read, a lot of buildings were destroyed centuries ago by invaders. A lot of the graves are more recent - even up to close to the present time although there are also a lot of old ones . I agree with you Cal that perhaps the oldergravesare more likely to be standing because of being carved from one solid piece of stone.

I'm a castle hound as well. Every time I see one, I want to be a time traveler to visit the past.
