The origins of this building date to 1887, but the building you see today was built in the 1930's. During, and immediately after, World War II, thousands of U.S. soldiers and sailers who had serious wounds and loss of limbs were sent to Hot Springs for rehabilitation because of the hydro-therapy available from the natural springs.

In 1960 the facility was turned over to the state of Arkansas, which now operates it as a comprehensive rehabilitation facility.
