While rummaging in the list of previous challenges, I just came across this image from Y2000, which went down quite well when I submitted it in the 'Silhouettes' challenge in June 2004.

Very subtle rays in this shot. I see some barely visible at the top.

Is this any better? Unfortunately I've lost one of my children in the process.

I'd spent a long time before posting, amending brightness & contrast, using my monitor which is visually adjusted closely to match what I get from own printer and what I get from photoprocessors, but obviously the rays aren't visible enough.

I don't think it's anything to do with flare, because the rays directly radiate from where the sun is, and I don't see how flare could happen without a bright light source outside the shot.

I take it that selective adjustment of brightness & contrast isn't allowed. It would have been very useful in this challenge, and I'd use it where necessary if I wanted to display images like this.
