At least it feels that way when you can take your son and the dogs on a stroll along the beach, only 4 blocks from your front door. Here's a horizontal shot.

And, the vertical orientation. As you can see, I was able to tighten the shot more, capturing more of the subjects. Which do you prefer?

Clearly, the first, horizontal one.

(a) It's a beautiful composition, with the shadow leading onwards, the boy's foot poised above the ground, the ripples, the lighting.

(b) It doesn't have the plastic bag in the father's hand, especially if its contents are what I think (not the boy's sweeties or the dog biscuits).

(c) Because a crop of the first provides everything in the second, but better.

Alan,

I join the other folks in their acclamation the first shot. I think horizontal shots tend to flatter sideways motion much more than vertical shots.

I think both shots are good. Each has its merits and not many demerits. Now what I want to know is what's in that plastic bag the man is carrying in the second shot...or...maybe I don't want to know. :G:G
