I shot this at a friend's bridal shower - the light was still a bit harsh but I wanted to take advantage of the shadows the afternoon sun casted. This is my frist real attempt at monochrome, still have lots to learn so Comments and Critique always welcome!

Color image - straight out of the camera - a bit over exposed :-)

...converted to grayscale, then back to RGB, and punched up the red and backed off on blue and green. Also played with the saturation a bit....

Good enough to eat! Your technique really worked well. I would have never thought to use that method. Good work.

thanks cal....

i read about this technique in a photo mag a while ago. i know it's not the best way, but it does the job. what i really like about converting to grayscale then back to rgb is that when i tweek the reds blues and greens, i have the capability of unchecking highlights, thereby preventing the whites from taking the redish tint that is applied to the rest of the picture. i am trying to go for that ever so trendy sephia type look - i figure with a bit more practice and fooling around, this'll be a pretty neat effect. just gotta work at the composition and mechanics of capturing a good enough shot - no amount of b&w conversion can compensate for a bad picture

happy 4th of july, and ~aloha~
