Here is a sky shot converted using split channels.

In the first shot, a split channel to RGB was done and the green and blue channels discarded.



In the second shot, a split channel to CMYK (Cyan,Magenta,Yellow,Black) and only the Cyan channel was retained. This conversion reveals details that are not easily visible in the color shot.



And here is the original color photo:



Note--I performed split channel conversions (RGB, HSL, CMYK) on a variety of different images with different combinations of colors and the color channel with the best BW image varied with the color content of the original image. In all cases, the HSL (Hue, Saturation, Lightness) split did not yield anything useful.

Hi Cal,

I like these shots. Cloud and con trail shots can be a lot of fun, although challenging at times.

It's very interesting how the B&W shows details you can't see in the color version. I'll have to experiment with this.
