I just couldn't resist. This picture was just screaming for this type of treatment and I am of weak will in such matters.

Steve

In Photoshop Elements 4.0 I cropped the original photo then I use the magic wand tool to select the color shell of the Lady Bug then selected inverse and desaturated the rest of the photo. This actually brought out more detail in the leaf.

The orignial photo.

Steve, although your entry is very nice, it does not qualify for the challenge for two reasons. First, the forum guidelines specifically prohibit selective coloring. Second, by retaining the coloring of the Ladybird Beetle, you have failed to show a black and white rendering of the subject.

I like selective coloring and it is useful in many venues. However, in this case we would like to see how different conversion techniques affect this image. For instance, conversion with a red or green filter or channel splitting. There are several techniques that I think would do a great job in rendering this in BW.

Thanks Cal,
Ooops, my oversight. If you would like to remove the post, please be my guest, I will work on a version that does meet the guidlines.
I appreciate the correction,
Steve

No, Steve, I'll leave it because it is a good photo. I am anxious to see what you do with a full BW conversion. Good luck to you.
