I took the origianl photo and converted it to B&W using iPhotos B&W conversion in the edit menu. After it was converted into B&W I hit the increase saturation button three times and the reduce saturation button once only because I made the image darker than I liked. I also did a small amount of cropping.
What follows is the result. I have to say, I quite like the result. To my eye the B&W version seems to have more of a 3D feel to it and seems a bit sharper, though no added sharpening was applied.

Wow! That's what it's all about! Great work. Before I saw the color image, I couldn't figure out what the bug was standing on. However, that's OK. The bug is the subject and looks like it's going to reach out and touch someone.
