Since I mentioned this in another thread, I thought I would post it here for the challenge. This was my first attempt at doing monochrome conversion. I simply desaturated the picute in PS7, and restored the colour to the eyes with the history brush. Since the cat was grey to begin with, the effect didn't work wellat all without the colour in the eyes.

Very nice conversion. However, if you have read the forum guidlines, you know that selective coloring is not appropriate in this forum. Although the technique is very effective and used in a lot of venues, especially advertising, we would prefer that artistic effects not normally seen in a photo not be used here.

I know that I am leaving myself wide open for a barage of criticism here. The current challenge involves using a variety of artistic tools to accomplisht the desired effedt, a good quality BW image, the use of these tools is totally transparent to the viewer.

I am going to leave this photo here since you have done a good job on the BW conversion and, most important, I like it!

Thanks for the response Cal. No critisism, rules are meant to be followed. Iwas unable to find the original conversio without the eyes in colour, so I 'recreated' the desaturated image, so as to keep this post in line with the forum rules. Also makes for an interesting comparison. I find this image is 'dead' without the eyes in colour. Some selective lightening of the eyes might help (Is that dodging or burning? I can never keep them straight and have never used them), as might a better conversion method than a 'quick and dirty' desaturation.
