I have tried B&W on this photo to ameliorate a specific problem. The old lady's forehead is overexposed. Otherwise, I love this quick snapshot I took on the island of Rhodes last year. My hope was that. in black and white, the forehead would not be so obviously blown out. I used PhotoShop to convert to B&W, applied unsharp masking to bring out the furrows on the brow a bit more, and adjusted the curve to increase small differences on the bright end of the scale.

I love her expression. Looks like she's about to yell at you for being on her lawn and stepping in her flower bed!

love the composition,little bit here and there( as you have rightly pointed out)Otherwise it is a great picture...

One thing I have noticed this week is that blown highlights are much more noticeable on BW than color. You could try dodging/burning (don't know which is what!) but once the detail is washed out you generally can't get it back.
