This is from our back garden gate. I've been trying conversions on & off for the whole fortnight, and now it's time to stop. It really needs separate treatment of foreground & background, but I presume that's cheating. Originals & process in replies below...

The first image above was rotated, cropped, PSP greyscaled (here), then twiddled using the curve shown. It's taught me to go back to try curves in colour on the original, but that'll take a while to get right. First attempt in reply below

Lost some detail in the mist, but getting there. I hadn't realised the dew on the grass was so visible until now!

Alan, it appears that you are working on a masterpiece. I suggest you go ahead and do what you feel is necessary to get what you want. Getting the photo the way you want it is more important than this forum. You have a difficult image to work with but I think your results will be pleasing.

Feel free to show us your results regardless of what techniques are required.

Cal

Nice work, Alan. I noticed you are from Chester...it's a lovely place. I took over 1 gb worth of images just inside the Cathedral but they were lost (the card got lost). I still have some images from the townas I swapped cards half way through my visit.
