This one came out very different than I thought when I first pointed the camera.

It's a shot through a Mason canning jar. I can't tell what's behind it, maybe a coiled telephone cord.

I thought much the same. It's must be a heavy moulded glass vessel with calibration mark moulded in. It looks to me like a telephone cord or similar coiled cable, still encased in the polythene film tubing with which they often arrive. I've left such tubing on them myself sometimes, because it helps prevent tangling.

Quite why these objects are juxtaposed beats me. How about behind the counter in a fast food joint? In British fish & chip shops there are heavy glass jars of pickled onions and pickled eggs to be seen.

Can't wait for the answer!

Bill was almost directly on target. I'd like to say that I planned the juxtaposition, but it was entirely an accident. I was shooting an antiqueMason jar in the top of one of my cabinets, playing with the light off it. It was when I took the memory card to the computer that I noticed the effect of the long plastic flex straw, the reusable kind you often get with giant sized drinks at some fast food restraunts, which was sitting next to the Mason jar. Because I wasn't shooting from straight on, the straw appeared to be inside the jar.

This one took an explaination for me to see it...and you are right, once you know, it makes perfect sense.
