Here's the answer. It's a piece of pumice, used traditionally (but never by me - not tough enough!) to remove loose bits from skin when bathing. This one's been usefully made into a nailbrush.

I took the shot from almost exactly the same position as the earlier one, of the sun shining through the glass. They're the two brilliantly illuminated things that hit my bleary eyes first thing that morning.
