This shot I took with a Nikon CoolPix 990 in 2001, January 5 to be exact.

Its a well known statue seen from Battery Park, New York.

I wanted to get a different angle / take on the whole thing so I sat on a bollard for about half an hour with my camera ready and the batteries in my pocket keeping them warm. There was about 5 minutes of shooting in each set of batteries and the cold was the main culprit. It was about 24 degrees F, and a bitter wind was blowing all day.....

During my set-up with my little tiny tripod about the size of a roll of quarters, my hand stuck to the metal bollard and I actually pulled skin off getting it off.

Having no real optical zoom, I gaffer taped a small monocular to the main lens and shot through that... it made for some interesting focus effects but it was a real learning experience.

The photos either side of this one are nothing spectacular, this one grabbed my attention.

Wow, interesting facts behind this image. Talk about patience! But, it was worth it. You captured a very unique moment when the sun replaces the torch on the statue. Great colors...excellent work!

Very nice. You sure have patience and a good grasp of what you need to accomplish the picture.

Thanks y'all...

I knew what I wanted before I took the shots... It was about right... and yes Tulio, I did want to replace the torch with the sun...

I have another interesting "Gaffer telephoto" shot in here somewhere too...

But that will have to wait until the "Live performance" topic comes around.

Wow, cool shot of the Statue of Liberty! I love how the sun is where the torch should be. Excellent! :|

Good job. I like the juxtaposition of the sun with the statue.
