I tried to get out to nearby Carpenter Dam this afternoon in time to get some sunset shots over the dam, but timed it wrong, but the trip wasn't a total waste. Waited a while and took some moon shots through the trees.

With this shot I have a question. I was going for the silhouette of the trees in the foreground and the mountain in the background (The mountain was across a lake). I found I could increase the shutter speed and close the aperature of the lens and get good moon detail, but there wasn't enough light for the silhouette to show....or I could get the burned out moon with a nice silhouette.

One thing I tried was on-board flash to bring the foreground up enough to produce a silhouette. The light value of the moon was still too extreme.
