This is the shot I had taken with the lights off. It's only 2 seconds.

I like this one also. It looks like the tree is decorated with different colored candy canes.

Wow, wonderful! And clearly approximately the same consistent rotation rate, only one rev in 2 seconds. What dextrous control! Presumably the viewfinder blanked out during the exposure, or did you have an optical one?

What f/number & ISO were the shots, please, so I can impress people next Christmas? (With all due credit for the inspiration, of course.) After the umpteenth year of cannibalising one or two working sets of Christmas tree lights out of many non-operational ones in the extended family, I need an incentive to tackle it again in the run-up to Xmas2007.

Thanks, all.

Actually, these attempts were inspired by someone on the Pentax forum here. We had a Christmas challenge for December and someone had done this with their tree. I thought it was cool so tried it myself.

Alan, the data for the photo is 18mm, f3.5, 2 sec, ISO200, center weighted average metering. It shows as unknown for the exposure program is listed as unknown, I don't know why. Although, I was usually shooting in manual mode back then. I had an optical viewfinder. It was taken with my dSLR. I don't remember how I shot it now. I would have had to have the viewfinder to make sure I had the image, but don't remember moving my head with the camera. Although, that might be the reason for the small circles. These two shots were the only attempts and are not cropped. I'm not that good to have not seen what I was shooting and get these.

My son's solution for Christmas light tangles is buy a new set every year. But, we just make sure we wrap them around something before storage for the year to avoid the screaming and language the week before Christmas. We tried one year without lights, but it just wasn't the same.

Very creative, nhmom. As Cal suggested, come Xmas time, I'll be out and about experimenting with light!
