I stood about 12 feet in front of the camera which was on a tripod. F stop was 6.3 with a 2 second exposure. I held a laser pen and moved it in circles while my daughter pressed the button. This was the result.

Well, I'd say you got some serious flares there. You are taking some serious chances pointing that laser directly at the camera lens. I'm not sure the sensor can handle direct laser light. The strange shaped spots are flares or reflections from inside the lens. The shape is caused bye the shape of the iris leaves. Is this a P&S? If so, it probably has a very simple iris with only a few leaves.

In the future, I would avoid pointing the laser at the lens and , instead, photograph the patterns you can create with the laser.

Wow Calr good advice. I should have done the light show on the wall and shot that. But if those 4 objects are lens flare it was pretty cool I thought. Thats why I posted it. Now I better check the camera out and see if there is any damage. Its a Fuji S-700 by the way.

It certainly made an interesting abstract, but as Cal said, it's chancy.
