Had this picture been taken seventy years ago, you might be looking at Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, or even W.E.B. Dubois entering or leaving these doors. The National Baptist Hotel and Bathoue was at one time ocnsidered the most luxurious hotel in the nation open to African-Americans. With the wide-open entertainment and gambling industry of Hot Springs, the best entertainers of the jazz era were frequent guests. The hotel was also the center for meetings of many of the early leaders of what became the civil rights movement. Despite several attempts to get funding to renovate it, today the hotel sits in limbo, a target for neither destruction nor renovation.

Wow,

What stories the walls of that hotel could tell.

Unfortunately many edifices like this stand around in limbo. From the practical side I can appreciate the shortage of funding necessary to renovate all of them. But it's a pity nonetheless.

Nice shots, wonder what inside is like.

Aloha
