The dark hand of approaching winter spreads across the autumnal garden. In the chess game in the foreground it threatens to seize the crown froma royal head. The pawn on the left is an innocent onlooker who happens to have a camera.

Or to put it another way, my wife will soon rescue the hanging basket from the birdbath.

Actually, I'm fibbing. Winter is not in sight except for the leaves & colours. It's 10 degC hotter than the seasonal norm here.

I confess to poor man's quasi-HDRfiddling, not very successfully,with the white pedestal, using another bracketed shot, becauseit was brilliantly lit and overexposed.

An interesting study in contrasts. My first instinct was to reject the photo because of the photographer's shadow. However, after reading your prose, it fits and helps to make an excellent shot.
