Fall leaves have finally begun changing in South Arkansas, but this morning, I got a visit of a different kind of seasonal color. All summer, I've been surprised at the paucity of blue jays in my woods. They more than made up for it this morning, feasting on the fall berries. This guy decided to pose in the top of a tree that had begun changing.

This little song sparrow decided to use the fall colors as camoflage, but he couldn't resist checking out the guy with that long, black tube pointing at him.

(Not as crisp as I would have liked. The real shallow DOF is usually an advantage with small birds, but it worked against me this time. I went ahead and posted because I liked the way he was posed among the leaves.)

Both photos are a bit soft but excellent, nonetheless. The Bluejays we see around here are much larger and tend to be what I call "bully birds". When a group of smaller birds have found something to feed on, the Bluejays will chase them off and enjoy the feast for themselves.
