This is the view from the hill a few minutes' walk from home, one evening last week.

The title is the last of Richard Strauss' overwhelmingly emotional "Four Last Songs", for soprano & orchestra, about an elderly couple in the twilight of life. I hear the music in my head every time I see beautiful evening light...

We have come hand in hand...
All around us the hills fall gently into valleys...
The sky is already growing darker...
Soon it will be time for sleep...

Nice shot, I like how the sun hits different parts of the hills and some are in the shadows.

Alan,

Great stuff. The shadows across the landscape combined with the impending twilight is fantastic.

For those of us not clasically bent the old popular hit:

Heavenly shades of night are falling
It's twilight time
Out of the mist your voice is calling
It's twilight time
When purple covered curtains mark the end of day
I'll see you each day at twilight time

Deepening shadows gather splendor
As day is done
Fingers of night will soon surrender
the setting sun
Each day I pray for evening just to be with you
Together at last at twilight time

Alan, I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you not to post any more of your beautiful photos. Everytime I see one, it increases my desire to go visit the UK. You have some truly beautiful scenery there. This photo is outstanding.

Selvin, I recognize the lyrics from "Twilight Time" but I'll be darned if I can remember who made it popular. I am thinking Sam Cook but not sure. Maybe Pat Boone?

Cal

Goinbg deep into my bank of radio memories, I remember that the Platters had a sensational version that made a hit. I think that was the original, but it could have been a cover.

Another great shot, Alan.
