A sunny afternoon in San Diego's Balboa Park. This youthful trio adds to the peaceful atmosphere.

This is an example where I find it difficult to imagine the sound, and would love to hear it. Is this a commonly seen trio of instruments in California? That's a world in itself that never ceases to amaze me.

Heaving the harp on & off stage in orchestral concerts is always a major undertaking, but round here harpists are usually young, female, beautiful and liltingly Welsh, so they're never short of helpers. The lad in the middle here is big & strong, so he could probably carry the bass & the harp, one under each arm.

My brother, when he briefly lived with me, once ferried his visiting professional bass player friend to an opera gig in Liverpool, in his tiny canvas-topped 425cc Citroen Dyane (http://www.motorbase.com/vehicle/by-id/520/) (about the size of a US supermarket trolly), with the neck & scroll of the bass sticking out of the roof, fortunately in good weather.

Now that's an interesting selection of instuments!

Nice capture, they appear to be having a great time.

Alan, they didn't have to carry the instruments that far. Rehersal rooms are just behind them in one of the many beautiful buildings in Balboa Park. In fact, my daughter began her acting career in the Balboa Park Junior Theater program -- more years ago than I care to count.

On weekends, especially, there are always performers to be seen and heard.

Well, they're not dressed for renaissance or baroque music so they must be playing jazz! However, the collection of instruments could be baroque or renaissance.
