I was out yesterday afternoon when I got a chance to see several rather large fellows who were trying to make themselves look even larger through impressive feather displays.

Trumpeter swans are so often shown as peaceful, giant, creatures slowly gliding along the edges of a lake. Take a hundred of them on the same small lake, add a few onlookers throwing corn, and you realize why the bird books call them America's largest, and one of its most aggressive, birds.

Great shots. Those swans are beautiful. Have you ever seen black swans. I first saw them in Australia about 30 years ago and more recently at the Byodo-In Buddhist temple on the east coast of Oahu. The ones in Oahu were in very poor condition.

I saw your swan shots on the Pentax forum and thought they'd make good feather shots for here. Was wondering if you'd used them.

Good job.

Mugmar - my husband would agree with you. A few years ago he stopped by the edge of this creek to check out the fishing and my son and I had stayed in the car for some reason. Within a few minutes he comes running up the bank and jumped in the car. It was so funny when he told me what he was running from. It happened to be a couple with some babies.

Trojansoc,

Very nice action shots of the swans.

I think Cal was commenting on this poor fellow in Honolulu:
