I thought I'd been scooped by flutelady until I saw her baton. She may well have one of these as well.

Whenever I see a metronome I think of the little boy practicing in The Red Violin.

The metronome is definitely a timepiece as it is mechanically driven. I am not completely sure about the batonl This is a great closeup of the metronome. A slightly faster shutter speed would have stopped the pendulum completely but I suspect your shutter was synchronized to the flash. Typically, the flash sync speed is 1/60th of a second.

1/8 second, f/3.2, ISO64, 87mm equiv. Two incandescent 60W spotlights overhead (which illuminate music on the piano, whose top lid hinge is visible). Deliberate slow shutter speed & no flash, to show the motion. Judgement of exact shutter release moment rather easy, given the subject with its regular loud click!

Hand-held, sorry, because in a hurry (just going out, and afraid someone else would get the same idea after flutelady's brilliant baton inspiration). Tribute to Z712's IS.
