Uhoh... another challenge!

Fluidity... hm. Now that's not what I normally do, so I'll see what I can come up with, but in the meantime I'll post the photos that immediately came into my mind when I saw the challenge announcement.

These were taken in the zoo last year and while I enjoyed watching the seals I noticed something strange and tried to capture it. Some of the seals did an amazing trick: they dived and then came up just a little bit - they just poked their heads out of the water or a fin or whatever and while they did that they were still almost COMPLETELY covered with water. They seemed to enjoy this - and did it again and again, only varying their movements a little as if they strived for a special effect.

OK - here are two photos for you to see for yourself:

#1 - you can even see some air-bubbles under the water film

#2 - this one even opened the eyes

Astonishing, isn't it?

The thing that I am still asking me is - were their noses covered as well? I mean - did they came up for air or were they just playing around? I got pictures where the nose looks "uncovered" from water and others where it clearly is covered... so I guess nobody will ever know exactly.

Regards,
Th.

Th,

I think these critters have some sort of muscle control in their nostrils that allows quite of bit of breathing range.

I just love the fluid motion they convey as they scamper around.

Thanks for sharing, aloha.

For me it looks like they really enjoyed this, and you are right - the small waves and bubbles they produce for sure look interesting.

Have a nice weekend,
Th.
