My wife's grandfather was fire chief of Darlington, NE England. for many years. He told me many wonderful fireman's stories, and I, much younger than him and then with a good memory, was aware he never told me the same story twice until he died in his 90's, and now he's in the churchyard next door. Sadly, aged 59, I can't remember the stories. I am mortified.

I do know that my mother-in-law, now 78, jumped off the hose-drying tower to be caught in a blanket to provide exercise for his troops.

What heroes!

I used to have a couple of those embroidered flag patches but they have slipped through the cracks. I haven't seen them for awhile.

I really like this shot. The composition is great. The retired fireman riding in what appears to be a retired fire truck is great.

Looks like it could be a scene in the Wax Museum. Nice shot.
